About Mildenhall

The town of Mildenhall centres on its historic market place with its 16th century hexagonal market cross and town pump. The town's market is held here on every Friday.  Mildenhall has a great selection of restaurants, takeaways and a super victorian teashop which shouldn't be missed.

From the apartment a 3 mile circular riverside walk or a town heritage trail is an excellent way to explore the immediate area.

Surrounding area

The nearby towns of Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds offer great days out, including a day at the races, a tour of the Greene King brewery or some retail therapy.   Slightly further afield are Ely, Lavenham and King's Lynn which also offer a wealth of attractions.

The Mildenhall Treasure

A major hoard of 33 Roman silver objects were unearthed nearby by a ploughman in 1942, a stunning replica of which can be found in the town's museum.  Roald Dahl's book "The Mildenhall Treasure" tells the fascinating story of its discovery, a copy of which can be found in the apartment.

As well as the display of the treasure, The Mildenhall museum in the centre of the town also contains displays of times past, the history of theRAF base from its opening in 1934 and much more.
